Every year, the LGBTQ Student Center awards the following: the Danny Gomez Legacy Award for a graduating senior; the Outstanding Graduate Student Award for a graduate student finishing their degree; the Outstanding Researcher Award for a student (undergraduate or graduate) conducting outstanding research advancing issues of gender and sexuality; and the Lavender Community Partner Award for an outstanding organization or individual working with UM. These students and community groups/partners have positively affected the LGBTQIA+ community and have left a lasting impact at the University of Miami.  

Nominee Criteria
Nominees must have accomplished one or more of the following:

• Improved campus climate and/or the LGBTQIA+ student experience.
• Fostered collaborations among UM’s LGBTQIA+ community and student organizations.
• Promoted communication and collaboration between UM’s LGBTQIA+ community and the greater UM community.
• Created unique collaborations and bridges between the LGBTQIA+ community at UM and in the greater Miami-Dade area. 

Nomination and Selection Process
Nominations may be submitted by faculty, staff, students, and alumni at the University of Miami, as well as community partners. The nomination must include a description of how the nominee has advanced LGBTQIA+ life at the University of Miami. The nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee, composed of selected faculty, staff, and students, who will review the applications and materials submitted. Final recipients will be selected based upon the criteria listed above and any additional supplemental information provided. Incomplete nominations will not be considered. All questions and documents must be submitted at time of nomination.

All nominations are due by 5:00 PM on March 21, 2025.
